Domaine Arretxea Iroulaguy Rouge

Domaine Arretxea takes its name from the Basque for "stone house", founded in 1989 by Thérèse and Michel Riouspeyrous in Irouléguy, the remote Basque appellation on the southern slopes of the Pyrénées Atlantiques. Now joined by their sons, the family farms steep, terraced vineyards on schist, sandstone and ophite soils, certified organic since 1998 and biodynamic soon after. Arretxea is widely regarded as the benchmark producer of the appellation.

This red blends Tannat with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on steep terraces of schist and limestone. Expect a red fruit forward wine with subtle herbal notes and a touch of white pepper, medium bodied with crisp acidity and soft, well integrated tannins. A structured, food friendly red for roasted lamb, coq au vin or grilled sausages.
